QUILT SHOW

August Quilt-o-rama

Celebrating Quilters from Around the World

Welcome! Welcome to our August Quilt-o-rama!

Walk through these hallowed aisles just as you would at a regular quilt show.

At the bottom of each page will be a link to the next aisle. Enjoy this adventure in quilting.

This Virtual Quilt Show celebrates quilters from the Accuquilt Learning and Support Facebook page and is possible with thank yous to the Aurora Sewing Center in Buffalo, New York.  In spring, we presented a challenge: to complete a quilt by August and share it in this virtual show.  Many of us with piles of UFOs are more apt to complete a quilt when there is a deadline. So, August 31st was our deadline. Now enjoy the results. With a standing ovation, I invite you to applaud our quilters. Walk through the aisles and then celebrate with fireworks.

We would appreciate your feedback. Stop and give a few shoutouts as you go 'ah'. These quilters will be appreciative.

Twirling Petals

Joann O'Connor ~ New Smyrna Beach, Florida

My first quilt using the 8" Qube. I'm pleased how it turned out.

I made it with scraps.

Wonky Heart for Muz

Alicia Black, Cameron, Texas

This is one of my first Accu-quilts using the wonky heart die. I used a fat quarter bundle in a color palette that pays homage to my grandmother who loved wine/burgundy shades. She taught me to quilt when I was a child, and I think of her often when I’m creating even still. I’d like to think she approves!

Original Creation

Lorraine Morris, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Here is a quilt I just finished as a shower gift for my niece.  Teal is her favorite color and she loves butterflies.

This was made with the Starry Path BOB and triangles I had to rotary cut because I didn’t have the appropriate size dies.  The pattern is one I created.

LogJam Quilt

Caroline Davidson, Hollis, New Hampshire

LogJam pattern. Designed by Ariga Mahmoudlou for Robert Kaufman fabrics.

My husband first requested a brown & grey quilt for his camper. THEN he picked out this pattern.  I had a jelly roll that wasn't working with various patterns, so tried it with LogJam - and it just WORKED!   To my delight, he claimed the result.

It was quilted on a long arm I rented at Bits & Pieces Quilt Shop, Pelham, NH.

This quilt is the result of the Mystery Block of the Month 2023 -2024, Eileen Kisicki instructor. In keeping with the mystery theme I tried a few new-to-me things: Double sided quilt...quilted with a pantograph, scalloped borders, and two fabric binding.

Marilyn Fleischman, Buffalo, New York

Mystery Block of the Month 2023-2024

I used every block we were given in class and made a few different additional blocks to make the front and back row numbers match.

Cathedral Window

Sheila Schaeffer,  Ontario, Ohio

This is a cathedral window quilt I made many years ago. I ran out of the white background fabric and my husband (then boyfriend) took me to Millersburg, OH to find more white material. Oh my ... I didn't know there were so many shades of white!  On the way home fog set in and we debated stopping at a hotel but we were pretty sure my parents would kill him if we did!!!

One Step at a Time

Sheila Schaeffer, Ontario, Ohio

Anticipating my retirement in December 2021, I enrolled in a 2022 “Block of the Month” quilting group. I had 9 years 4-H sewing experience so I was hopeful that quilting would be something I would enjoy. The BOM quilting group met every Thursday evening for an hour. The leader would introduce the new “block”, alert us to any pitfalls, and answer questions.

It was clear after my first meeting that I hadn’t anticipated the scope of this project!!! However, I asked lots of questions, the ladies in the group were very supportive, and I embarked on my quilting journey. Many times, the directions seemed too complicated and the project too overwhelming.

It was at that point I drew on my mother’s patient guiding hand during 4-H projects when she would say, “Don’t get overwhelmed Sheila … just take one step at a time”. I found by doing this, my endeavor (whether my 4-H project or my newly acquired quilting skills) would come together …. Just as my mother had predicted.

Hunter's Star Quilt

Paula Webb, Collinsville, Oklahoma

The Hunter's Star I made for my oldest son.

It was the 2nd quilt I made.

Northwoods Medley Quilt

The Northwood Medley/Deer/ Maple Leaf was for my other son.

It was the 3rd quilt I made.

The Bookcase Quilt

Paula Webb, Collinsville, Oklahoma

The Bookcase for my daughter in law is my 6th quilt.

Still learning and enjoying every minute!

"...my quilting journey has forever changed. I absolutely love your approach to teaching and I am learning about blocks that are challenging yet do-able. I am loving the use of the Accuquilt to cut, the history of the blocks and the companionship of fellow friends of the cloth. What a fulfilling addiction! I absolutely thank you from afar every day for being in every stitch I take and I so look forward to many more classes with you. Single handidly, you have rocked my world!" ~ Barbara Nicol, Marysville, Ohio

Scrabble Quilt

Debbie Smith, Edmond, Oklahoma

I made this for my sister in law with their names, their 2 boys and their wives names, and the grandchildren’s names. All 2” squares. I ordered the Scrabble tile fabric from a quilt shop in Colorado.

A Finished UFO

Susan Benchik, Webster, New York

This is not my quilt but is my daughter's, not using accuquilt, and has a story behind it. She pieced it when her second son was born, 14 years ago! It remained unquilted for all that time and finally last year I quilted it for her, and because the sailboats really didn't fit with my grandsons personality I quilted a 20 sided dice in the corner for the dungeons and dragons he loves! That is one UFO that has been around a long time! Don't know if you want to include this in the August quilt show but I thought it was an interesting / funny story!

"I am so happy to take your ZOOM classes - nobody is looking over my shoulder making me feel uncomfortable AND I don't have to pack up a gzillion supplies to take to a class (always forgetting something), It's like my dream has come true!

So grateful for you Eileen Thompson! "              ~ Sue Benchik, Webster, NY

Pinwheels on Point

Phyllis Schelling, Caroll, Iowa

Finally finished this one. It's from Missouri Star Quilts. I made the top 3 or 4 years ago.  It Is a jelly roll from Joann's Fabrics. Still have many UFOs to do!

Flowering Snowball

Lisa Diedrich, St. Louis, Missouri

This die was sitting in my bin collecting dust until Eileen offered the Flowering Snowball class.  With Eileen’s careful instruction and gentle encouragement, I mastered the technique of curved piecing.  The top went together easily and the entire project took 3½ weeks.  The back is dark blue cuddle fabric.

This quilt was gifted to my niece who started her studies in meteorology at St. Louis University.  Finished quilt size: 68" x 92".

Cathedral Windows ~ Sweet Pea

Peggy Alexander, Blue, Arizona

This is “Designer Cathedral Windows”, an embroidery pattern by Sweet Pea.  Each block had over 23,000 stitches and boy was I sick of it when I finished!  It won 3 ribbons in my local quilt show, however!  I made this for my eldest granddaughter.  She has never taken it out of the box!

Eternity ~ Connecting Threads

Also by Peggy Alexander

This pattern is called “Eternity” by Connecting Threads.  I purchased this pattern because I had the entire line of Smokey Mountain fabrics and wanted to use them in our bedroom.  This was the perfect pattern for them.  I made this quilt, 2 shams, 2 side table covers and 4 window cornices out of this fabric line.  This was my first “pieced” quilt, and I made a rookie mistake by purchasing directional fabrics.  I somehow managed to make it work, with all the bears, borders and trees ending up vertical. “Eternity” took “Judge’s Choice” and “2nd Place Overall” at my local quilt show.

Irish Chain ~ Eleanor Burns

Peggy Alexander, Blue, Arizona

This is “Irish Chain In A Day” by Eleanor Burns.  I love Irish Chains and she always has an interesting take with her patterns.

Pansies on Point ~ Debbie Beaves

This is “Pansies on Point” by Debbie Beaves, featuring “Brightly So” fabric line by Robert Kauffman.  I loved the pansies – pansies always remind me of my grandparents, “Nana and Dada”, so are one of my favorite flowers.

Stardust

Peggy Alexander, Blue, Arizona

This is “Stardust”, a Connecting Threads pattern and the first one I converted after taking your conversion class.  It made piecing it so easy!  I love lavender and sage together.

Applause is welcomed for these quilters at eileen@quiltersb.com

Walkabout

This is “Walkabout” by Grizzly Gulch.  I wanted a pattern with large blocks so I could feature my “Majestic” fabric by Chong Huang, one of my favorite fabric artists.  This won honorable mention at my local quilt show.

Shaggy Roses

This is “Shaggy Roses” – another embroidery pattern by Sweet Pea.  I mass-cut all the flower components in stacks with my good scissors.  I cut all the leaves and little squares out with my Scan N Cut – because at the time I made this I had no Accuquilt dies, no Qubes, and of course had no idea I needed them!  This one won 2 ribbons at my local quilt show.  I made this for my youngest granddaughter.

Quilts Galore ~ From Sue Montag, New Prague, Minnesota

The variation on a log cabin star was a fun sew along from a Facebook group last winter.  The quilt with the dog prints was a gift for our grandson on his 10th birthday.

The pillow was the 1st block I made with my Accuquilt!   It laid in my sewing room for at least a year until I got back to it and turned it into a pillow.

My "bright quilt" was a Mystery quilt taken over Zoom.  It was 5 weeks of classes and then cutting the blocks with my newly acquired Accuquilt.   It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot!

The pattern is "Ruby Jubilee, " by Amanda Murphy.   The fabric is a navy batik for the background, most of a fat quarter bundle and some other fabrics that I had on hand.  It was totally out of my comfort zone and I love it!

Mystery Build-a-Quilt

Laurie Jimenez, Georgetown, Texas

Made with block number 8, using mystery blocks from first three months.

Donated to local charity.

Based on color challenge from my quilting group, where we blindly selected three colors from a paper bag.

Pieced on Pfaff Icon 2.

FMQ on Bernina 16.

Baby Boy Bundle

Laurie Jimenez, Georgetown, Texas

Made from a Shannon Cuddle kit for a new baby boy coming soon.

Wildwood by Amy Ellis

Linda Thaler, Watervliet, Michigan

First quilt made using Accuquilt. January, 2024.

Flannel fabric and pattern picked out by my daughter. I ended up having enough fabric leftover to make a second quilt.

Churn Dash Quilt

Linda Thaler, Watervliet, Michigan

2nd quilt made using Accuquilt. February, 2024.

Josephine Sienkiewicz ~ Freehold, New Jersey

My quilt is Exploding Heart and was done during Eileen’s class. It was a new challenge for me as I’ve been doing quilting for about 10 years after retirement. Love it!! This was a great project. I had difficulty with color choices, so the end result goes with my bedroom colors and is different from other quilts I’ve done.

Exploding Heart Quilt ~ House of Pi

Today I’m trying out free motion quilting on a Cutie frame. I usually use a longarmer but costs are getting expensive.  I hope I can learn this technique!!! I’ve taken several of Eileen’s classes and love the information and the techniques and using my AccuQuilt dies too. I’m also learning appliqué too!!

Pictures attached showing full Queen quilt and one showing backing of flannel hearts design.

Kaleidoscope ~ Missouri Star

Bonnie Stone ~ Madison, New York

Found this fabric in the attic and had no idea where it came from.  It was pretty ugly. I watched the Missouri Star Quilt video and knew exactly what to do with this ugly fabric. I really like the way it came out.

Aren't you proud of our quilters? Give them the recognition they deserve with applause at eileen@quiltersb.com.

Stars in the Crown

Paula Walters, Rolla, Missouri

This is my first quilt I made using Accuquilt. It was a 2023 quilt along by Accuquilt and the American Quilter's Society.

Grapefruit Slice

Paula Walters, Rolla, Missouri

This quilt is another quilt along by Accuquilt and AQS.  It’s made with the Tangled Star die.  I used 1930 reproduction prints by Riley Blake.

Practice Makes Perfect

Paula Walters,

Rolla, Missouri

I made these four table toppers after taking the Pattern Conversion and Dissection class with Eileen Thompson.

I found blocks pictures on Pinterest to practice my newly learned skills to make these little quilts.

Quilt as You Go

I enrolled in the Quilt As You Go class taught by Eileen Thompson.

By Paula Walters, Rolla, Missouri

I chose to use the Chimney Sweep die to make this small quilt to learn all the techniques I learned in this fabulous class.

Ohio Star BOB Die Quilt

This is a memory quilt using mom's clothing for the star blocks.

Evette Layton, Childress, Texas
